Richard is a watercolour artist based in Auckland, New Zealand.
He started painting with watercolours while at school. He enjoys its transparency, spontaneity and, sometimes, unpredictability. As an avid traveller and walker, he also appreciates its portability. He is generally drawn to painting desolate, rugged places with limited human interference that showcase nature’s beauty while illustrating how we are dwarfed by its enormity and its immense variability. His watercolour paints and brushes are his constant companions whether in the national parks of the UK, the mountain passes of the Hindu Kush or in the Southern Alps of New Zealand.
